When families reach out to me to inquire about Tybee Island, Georgia family photography sessions, without a doubt, one of the most frequent requests is if they can do the session a bit earlier, and I completely understand. Often, it’s close to or even past a little one’s bedtime when the typical Tybee family sunset session occurs around 7:30 p.m. or later. It absolutely sounds like a reasonable request, but there are several reasons why it won’t serve you or your Tybee family photo session well.

First, many families are coming from the Midwest, perhaps for the first time, and don’t realize how truly hot it gets in the summer on Tybee. Often, it can still be in the 80s during a sunset session, so imagine the temperature a few hours before that. Also, with heat like that comes sweat, and you didn’t take an entire weekend coordinating your family’s wardrobe just to have them sweating all through everything. Additionally, there are more crowds early on the beach, which really impacts the intimacy and whole vibe of your session. Not to mention the squinting one will do with a brighter sun, even with one’s back to it.

So what do you do about all these things? It’s very simple, really. You and your family schedule a short beach day on the day of your Tybee Island, Georgia family photography session so that you’re not completely drained come evening. Then mid-afternoon, everyone gets in a nice, healthy nap with plenty of transition to wake up and not feel cranky for their Tybee family photos. Look at it not as limiting a day of your vacation but investing in happy, smiling family members for photos that will last a lifetime.
